‘What do you think these Anunnaki will do when they get here?’ Aiden asked.

‘What did the Spanish do when they discovered South America. Or the Americans, British, French even Germans for that matter do they first arrived in any foreign land? If they saw that there was something they wanted be it land, gold, spices or slaves and they had the power to take it then that is what they did!’ Aya said sadly.

‘What if there is nothing here that that they need?’ Aiden said hopefully.

‘There will always be something that will interest them even if it is just a case of showing off their power’ Aya shook her head. ‘’When they come they will see the Earth as their play thing and the humans as their pets to do with as they please.’

‘But we are much more powerful now. We have weapons like atomic bomb no!’ Demitri called from the behind.

‘But all our technology is failing look at what happened to the planes’ Gagan answered, ‘and most of our weaponry is based on high technology so it could be useless!’

‘Yes Gagan I think you are right, what will really threaten them are mans numbers. For they will be few and man will be many. Which is why they will almost certainly try to destroy much of human kind until they have a number that they can manage’ Aya prophesied.

‘They sound like a nice bunch alright’ Seth said shaking his head.

‘Why won’t our technology work?’ Aiden asked.

‘I do not know the answer to that’ Aya replied.

‘What about all the other people we can’t just leave them all to die can we?’ Bridget now asked from the seat behind.

‘How many of you told others about what we are doing?’ Aya answered her question with a question.

‘Well I guess I did’ Aiden said thinking about Terry.

‘And what did they say?’ Aya continued.

‘He said he wanted to stay where he was’ Aiden shrugged.

‘My girl friend just said I was nuts’ Seth laughed but there was sadness in his eyes.

‘Yes us too! Our families said we were mad in the end we lied and told them we were going on holiday’ Bridget said also with sadness in her voice.

The others in the group recounted similar stories. People just did not believe them even the appearance of the planet could not convinced them, most saying it was just a comet as the government had said. Many also said they could not just set off on a wild goose chase as they had their jobs to consider!

‘It is as I thought’ Aya said sadly, ‘most people will not and cannot believe. They will only see what they want to see. For them what we are doing is far more dangerous than anything else that could possibly happen!’

They drove on in silence once more the minibus eating up the miles on the motorway as they sped towards Folkestone.

‘Anything on the radio Aaron?’ Seth asked and Aaron obligingly turned on the radio and started searching for stations but all he got was static.

  ‘Sorry nothing’ Aaron rumbled apologetically.

‘Looks like it’s going to be another sunny day’ Gagan said looking out of the window.

‘How about that’ Seth replied, ‘all I have ever have know in this country is cloud and rain and suddenly we get sunshine for weeks on end!’

So began a typical discussion on the weather which took thoughts away from the Anunnaki and their family and friends who remained behind.

They arrived at Folkestone less than two hours after setting off from London and followed the signs for the Euro Tunnel. When they reached the train terminal they found that there were cars and lorries queued everywhere, all desperate to get across the channel.

‘Looks like we are going to have a long wait’ Aaron said pointing at the traffic.

‘Head for the pre paid tickets lane over there’ Aya pointed. ‘I have already booked our minibus in!’

There was only a small queue to the prepaid ticket booths as only a few vehicles it seemed had pre booked their journey. After showing their train ticket and passports they were waved through onto the train. Aaron carefully drove the minibus into the specially built train compartments that would transport them through the channel tunnel across into France. The travellers all took one last sad look at England.

‘I wonder if we will ever see England again?’ Seth pondered but no one answered.

Chapter 9 - The Black Forest Dryads

The actual crossing under the English channel took only thirty five minutes and all they felt was the slight drop as the train descended and then as it began to rise once more towards the French coast. Once the train had come to a halt in France the compartment doors were once again opened and Aaron drove the minibus back out into the early morning sunshine bathing the French coast.

With directions from Gagan, Aaron drove them out of the train terminal and onto the auto route heading for Belgium whose border was less than an hour’s drive away. Once across the border and into Belgium Gagan’s directions then took them on the auto routes that skirted around the country’s capital and led them to the German border. Aaron stopped only briefly along the way for fuel and to let his passengers stretch their legs. By lunch time they had reached the German border and entering Germany they decided to stop at a service station for some lunch. The services were spotlessly clean with lots of tables spread around a large sun lit room. There was a long self service food counter that contained a variety of hot and cold foods from which customers could chose and then pay for at the tills at the end. Aiden looked at the food trying to decide what to get. There were lots of cold meats and sandwiches and bowels of various types of hot food some of which Aiden recognised like chilli con carne but a lot of others that had him baffled.

‘You must try the bratwurst and sauerkraut my friend’ Demitri said to Aiden seeing his indecision. Aiden looked where Demitri pointed to a tray of pale sausages beside which was another tray of some kind of cabbage.

‘It will put hairs on your chest’ Demitri laughed and Aiden not to be rude put two of the sausages on his plate together with some cabbage.

‘Don’t forget the mustard, it’s the most important part’ Demitri instructed.

Having made his selection of food and grabbing a can of coke Aiden then paid for it at the tills with his card and took his meal over to the table where the rest of the group were now sitting. Aiden tentatively tried the bratwurst with some of the sauerkraut and actually found that he enjoyed it. The bratwurst tasted good especially with the mild mustard. The sauerkraut, which Demitri had told him was pickled cabbage wasn’t so bad either though he preferred the sausages.

‘So are we going to stop tonight or do we drive all night?’ Demitri asked the group in general cramming a large piece of bratwurst into his mouth.

‘I have found us a nice spot in the Black Forest where we can camp’ Gagan said in answer.

‘Ah the black forest she is a beautiful place, I congratulate you on your choice my friend’ Demitri beamed.

Aiden looked round at the group he was travelling with, they were the same people he had met in the pub on that Sunday night which now seemed such a long time ago. But there were a couple of young additions a boy and a girl whom Aiden now looked at.

‘You haven’t met the youngest members of our group have you?’ Aya said seeing Aiden looking at the children. ‘That is Caleb he is Aaron and Faiths son and that pretty young lady is Skyla who is Elden and Bridget’s daughter.’

‘Hi Caleb and Skyla, I am Aiden’ Aiden said introducing himself to the two children whom he guessed were around eight years old. Skyla was a pretty girl as Aya had said with blonde hair and large blue eyes and a shy smile while Caleb was of a darker complexion with curly black hair like his father and eyes like his mothers that regarded him fearlessly.

‘They are beautiful no, I could just eat them both up’ Oleska said gently pinching Caleb’s cheek making him squirm away.

‘You must be careful I am thinking’ Demitri said waving his fork at the children’s parents, ‘my Oleska plans to ste
al them away from you.’

‘I could do with break’ Faith said ruffling Caleb’s hair obviously pleased with Demitri’s comments.

Back once more on the road after lunch and the German autobahns soon proved every bit as efficient as the services that they had eaten in. They quickly drove through the German towns and cities reaching the famous Black Forest late in the afternoon. Gagan directed Aaron off the main autobahn and onto small road the led into the forest and after a few miles they found a remote spot where they decided to make camp. The place they chose was a small meadow covered in wild flowers that was surrounded by trees, a scene from a picture postcard Aiden thought to himself. Soon everyone was busy setting up tents which was the moment Aiden had dreaded having no idea how to pitch a tent. But thankfully the shop keeper hadn’t lied to him about his tent, for once he had removed it from its wrapping it seemed to magically open out into a circular tent all on its own. All that remained was for him to peg down the tent as the instructions told him. Aiden noted with some satisfaction that he was one of the first to get his tent set up. Looking around he could see that Demitri had some sort of green army camouflaged tent that looked like it was throw back from the cold war and was large enough for a whole troop of solders to sleep in. Despite the tent's size Demitri and his family with regimented precision had already nearly finished pitching it. Which was more than could be said for Aaron and Faith who seemed to be having a life or death struggle with their tent. Aiden deciding to see if he could be of any help wandered over.

‘You’ve got to put the two poles up in the tent first’ Faith said in frustration hands on hips.

‘Yes dear’ Aaron said trying to do as she said as Aiden now held the tent up for him. Aaron finally managed to set the poles up inside the tent. He then tried to extract himself out from under the canvas sheets but because of his size failed miserably resulting in the tent collapsing once more.

  ‘Aaron!’ Faith scolded her husband.

Aiden heard some stifled giggles and turning saw Caleb both hands over his mouth doing his best not to laugh out loud, which only served to make Aiden burst out in laughter, which in turn set Caleb off and then Aaron too was laughing as well.

‘Well I don’t think this is anything to laugh about at this rate we’ll be here all night’ Faith said arms now squarely on hips which only made matters worse with Aaron now doubled up in laughter.

‘Aaron stop that at once’ Faith demanded but even she now had a smile on her face.

‘What is happening over here then?’ Demetri said coming over and soon took over from Aaron and Aiden who were still giggling. Demitri laid out the tent and staked the edges firmly in the earth and then as Aaron had done before went into the tent putting up the two poles, this time unlike before the poles remained standing as the tent was now staked into the ground. Demitri then put the crossbeam on which connected the two poles making the tent ridged.

‘See you must stake the tent in the ground first my friends!’ Demitri told the two men who burst out laughing once more.

‘Bah amateurs!’ Demitri said and began to put the outer sheet over the tent.

The tents had all been set in a semi circle around the minibus and once everyone’s tent was up Demitri, who was unofficial camp leader, began placing the camping stoves in the centre and soon had a pot of water heating to make tea and coffee. While the water was heating he started preparing some food to cook for dinner refusing any help saying that the others would only get in his way. So Aiden together with Aaron and Elden decided to gather some wood from the forest to make a camp fire, while Aya, Gagan and Seth went over maps to plan their journey ahead, the rest prepared their tents for the coming night.

Demitri made a tasty chicken stew for the group which they ate with French bread washed down with cups of coffee. With the meal finished everyone lent a hand with washing and cleaning up, all except for Demitri that is whom everyone insisted had done enough work already. The stars were shining brightly in the clear night sky by the time they had finished clearing up and were all once more sat down around the camp fire.

‘So where do you suppose this planet is up there’ Bridget said looking up at the night sky.

‘Well over there towards the horizon is the milky way’ Aya pointed, so if we go directly upwards from there’ Aya drew her finger in an arc, ‘then my guess is it will be somewhere there’ Aya pointed at relatively dark patch of sky where everyone now focused their attention on.

‘I can’t see anything unusual there’ Seth said after a while.

‘That is because it’s too far away at the moment but it will get brighter as it gets nearer eventually you will be able to see it even during the day!’ Aya said.

‘It won’t hit us, I mean it won’t hit this planet will it’ Bridget said with some alarm.

‘No it will fall between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter’ Gagan assured her.

‘But what about the affects of its gravity won’t that be dangerous. I saw a programme about that once and it said that gravity was a very powerful thing and if this is a large planet’ Bridget paused looking at Aya.

‘That I can’t say, that is more in your field isn’t it Gagan?’ Aya said looking at him.

‘Well I guess Bridget is right in a way its gravity may affect us but it depends on how big the planet really is. My guess though is if it has passed by this way many times before then we have nothing to worry about. What I mean is that at the start of our solar system there would have been chaos with lots of collisions between planet’s and asteroids and yes gravity as you say would have been a big factor in all that. But by now everything has a certain order each planet has found its place in the system if you like and I am sure the same applies to this new planet.’ Gagan said.

‘You know I still can’t believe that this is all happening and we are actually here doing this!’ Aiden said looking up at the stars.

‘It is strange for us all my friend’ Demitri said, ‘but these things have happened as Aya said no? This is why we are all here.’

‘Well I still have my doubts as you all know, but I did give my word ’Faith sighed. ‘Anyway its time Caleb got some sleep’ Faith said getting up.

‘But mum!’ protested the sleepy boy.

‘Yes goodnight all’ Aaron said with a smile also getting up.

‘Yes us too come on Skyla love, sweet dreams all of you’ Bridget said and the two families went to bed leaving the rest of them around the camp fire.

‘So Long, Li, Hoshi tell us about yourselves’ Demitri said with a grin.

‘Husband don’t be so rude’ Oleska scolded him.

‘Please it is Ok ‘ Long said with a bow.

‘I remember you say you came here because of your father so did you come here from China?’ Demitri asked ignoring his wife.

‘Yes that is correct we came over here as you say from China, three months ago now’ Long bowed his head once.

‘But why here did some ancient Chinese scroll tell you to come?’ Seth asked.

‘Yes the Chinese culture is one of the oldest in the world there must be much information there that we could use’ Gagan exclaimed ‘There are written records in China dating back to nearly 4000 BC and they also have records about a great flood! Is there information about Eden, is that why you came here as Seth said, did some ancient text lead you here?’ Gagan said with great excitement.

‘I am afraid that is not the reason we came here no’ Long apologised politely.

‘But then why did you come here?’ Gagan asked the wind taken out of his sails.

  ‘The internet’ Long replied.

‘The internet!’ Gagan exclaimed with a frown.

‘Yes we read what Mistress Aya said on the internet and we decided to come over here’ Long said with another bow.

‘But... The internet!’ Gagan exclaimed at a loss for words and Hoshi covered her mouth to mask her smile at Gagan’s confusion while the others laughed.

‘But why were you interested in wh
at Aya had to say?’ Seth now asked.

‘Our father was a great scholar, he devoted his life to the mysteries of the past and he too saw connections between the Chinese and the other civilisations much as Mistress Aya sees them. It was he who learnt that the end of our age was upon us and he greatly desired to meet with Mistress Aya and to learn from her. But he was not given the time. It was his wish that my sisters and I should travel in his place to see Mistress Aya and to follow as she commanded’ Long bowed. ‘But it is Hoshi who would better answer your questions for she was a pupil of our father.’

‘Hoshi you know about the old Chinese records?’ Gagan asked eagerly to which Hoshi nodded once more covering her mouth to hide her smile.

‘Will you tell me about what you learnt Hoshi’ Gagan continued.

‘I would be honoured to teach you what I have learnt’ Hoshi said with a bow.

‘Well can you both do that later my head is already spinning with too much information about history as it is’ Seth demanded ‘So what do you both do then, you are both twins right?’ Seth said pointing at Long and Li.

‘I am a student in the martial art of Shuai Jiao’ Long bowed.

‘And I am a student in the martial art of Shaolin Wushu’ Li Bowed.

‘Wow’ Seth whistled, ‘now that’s more exciting than history, no offence Hoshi. So do you guys smash blocks of concrete and things?’

‘Seth I sometimes wonder about you!’ Gagan said shaking his head in disbelief.

‘What!’ Seth said looking at Gagan befuddled.

‘We do not do that as a rule’ Li answered politely ‘our training teaches us to protect and preserve not to destroy’

‘Oh I am sorry I did not mean to offend you’ Seth said suddenly feeling foolish.

‘Please do not worry we know that in the West your understanding of our martial arts is much different to how we in China see it. But your Bruce Lee films we have found most entertaining’ Li smiled.

‘And you Seth what is it you do?’ Li now asked.
